Mix Media Valentine Card – Valentine’s Day Card Series Day 2

January 18, 2022

Hey everyone. Welcome back to day two of the series. We are working on mix media valentine cards. Mix media really scares me for some reason, however in today’s tutorial I’m going to embrace it the best way I know how. Ink and water will do the trick. The term mix media is really just using different mediums to create something pretty. So that can be anything from ink to paint to glitter. As long as you have at least two different mediums, you have mix media. Really simple right.

I’m using Hero Arts Hero Hues today as I know they work well with water and create beautiful cards. As I was working on this card I really loved how I was able to create texture without using any thing more than the ink, water and a piece of acetate. I paired up the pretty background with a bold print stamp, a few dies and a simple sentiment.

The soft color of the background works so well with the lines of the Hero Arts Chained Linked Fence Bold Print stamp. Also the Chain Link Fancy Die is the perfect addition to the card for a little bit of raised texture.

Adding a touch of silver to my card with silver matte cardstock for my lock from the Locks Fancy die set from Hero Arts as my center piece on my card. Pulling in all the ink colors for my sentiment keeps my color palette flowing.

I have a couple bonus cards for you as well to show you how else you can use the color palette. This simple colored gradient heart made from Hero Arts glitter cardstock, Hero Arts Infinity Hearts die and the same color inks I used for my background take on a totally different look.  Keeping the background simple with an embossing folder makes the heart stand out even more.

And why not use one more medium today. I pulled out my Copic markers to color in this adorable image from Woodware Craft Collection called Valentine Gnome. I have to say, I’m pretty smitten with this card. The Copic makers colors used are:

E11, E13
R32, R43
BG02, BG07
Rv13, RV21
Rv19, RV99
T3, T5, T7
Prismacolor Pencils for added depth

Pixel Grid Your Valentine’s Day Cards – Valentine’s Day Card Series Day 1

January 17, 2022

Hey everyone. Today is the start of the Valentine’s Day Card Series. The tutorial today is showing you how to use the Ink Blot Shop’s Pixel Grid with Pixel Grid Masks stencils. I think this stencil pack is soo very cool. I paired this stencil with the Sentiment Label Blocks stamp set. The color palette is chocolate with a splash of red and pink. There is also a bonus card using the same color palette with Copic markers.

Here is the card I made using the Ink Blot Shop Happy Mail Heart with Copic markers. The color palette is still the same just the medium has changed. The Copic makers I used for this card were R35, R46, R11, R21, E25, E27 and W02. I used the same Distress Oxide colors for the sentiments

You can watch the tutorial here or over on my Youtube channel mzdanajoy.

Thanks for stopping by today. I’ll be back tomorrow with another tutorial and color palette. Have a great day everyone.

Chain Link Hearts – Valentine’s Day Card Series 2020 Day 3

January 15, 2020

Hey everyone.  I’m back sharing a rainbow chain link hearts card.  This card was so much fun to make.  The cards I’m creating are easy to recreate and mass produce.  Especially if you are making them for class mates or teachers.

For today’s card I pulled out ink pads in rainbow colors to create the chain link hearts for my card panel. If you can’t get your hands on Catherine Pooler inks you can definitely use other inks in the same color family.

Chain Link Hearts

Using just a touch of black really makes the card.  If you prefer not to use black a simple color from the rainbow inspired chain link hearts would work as well.  Also a pretty said of light gray would be a very cooling choice.  Remember this card is customizable to your liking.

Ombre Ink Backgrounds – Valentine’s Day Card Series 2020 Day 2

January 14, 2020

Hey everyone Ombre Ink backgrounds for Valentine’s Day cards?  Yes please!!  Using different color inks or an ombre ink pad helps you to be colorful when you make your Valentine’s Day cards this year.

My card was super easy to make and I can see all the color options with this easy technique.  Remember when picking your colors, make sure the colors will blend nicely.  You don’t want any colors that will make “mud”.  Unless that’s the look you are going for.

Ombre Ink backgrounds

Like I say in the video, inks will stain this stamp set however it will not decrease the quality of the stamp.  You can use stamp cleaner on these stamps as well as baby wipes to remove any ink residue.
