Brea Reese Pirate Friendly Sea

September 23, 2019

Hey peeps. It’s Brea Reese Pirate Friendly Sea on the blog today.  I’m back to share a really cool alcohol technique using Brea Reese Alcohol inks.  Last Thursday was International Pirate Day and I was meaning to post this card then, however I had a family emergency to take care of so it’s a little late.  I loved how this card turned out and it was so easy to do.  Here’s how my pirate friendly sea came together.

To start I trimmed down a piece of Brea Reese waterproof paper to  4.25 x 5.50 size.  Starting with the lightest blue color (Ocean Green) and blending solution I swirl the two colors together across the bottom half of the paper.  Once I had the desired effect, I hit it with my heat tool to dry that layer.  Next I came in with the next shade of blue (Lake Blue) and blending solution to create my second layer.  I used a paint brush to keep the color right below the first color.  I don’t want this two colors to blend right now.  Again, once my desired effect was achieved I hit it with my heat tool.  For the last layer, I directed the darkest blue (Prussian Blue) and blending solution towards the bottom of the paper.  Moving the color with my paint brush again to keep the color flowing.

Now it was time to create the waves,  I used a q-tip loaded with blending solution and worked the back and forth across the paper for definition and movement.  This was super easy to do.  You get lovely waves with this technique.  Now that everything was looking the way I wanted, I drew in the white highlight waves with a white gelly roll pen.  The water was complete and I moved on to work on the sun and clouds.  Using a q-tip soaked in Cadmium yellow alcohol ink I drew on my son.  I heat set it so I could move onto the clouds and sky.  I poured a few drops of ocean green ink onto a paper towel and started dotting on the blue background making sure to keep some white areas.  This way my clouds would have very soft edges.  I love how this panel turned out.

To finish off my card I stamped and colored a pirate ship from the Pink and Main Pirate Critters stamp set. I also stamped out a sentiment from this set and glued it to the background.  For added dimension, I popped up my ship with foam take.  The waterproof paper is very thin, so I placed a piece of fun foam behind it for stability and glued it to a white card panel.  This wavy card background is just perfect!!  Here is a closeup of the water.

Brea Reese Galaxy and Big Dot Background Cards

September 4, 2019

Hey peeps.  With hurricane Dorian never making land fall I was able to still craft my weekend away.  Making Brea Reese galaxy and big dot background cards was a better way to spend my time.  Let me share with you the two cards I made.

For my first card I made a galaxy background with several alcohol inks on Brea Reese waterproof paper.  I set this panel aside to dry while I worked on my design.  When I’m making cards, I like to have a plan.  I may sketch out the design first or I may already have a design in mind.  For this one I knew I wanted to use the new Waffle Flower Big Dots die.  I could use the left over pieces to make another card.

Brea Reese Galaxy background

Once the panel was completely dried I ran it through my Gemini Jr. with the Waffle Flower Big Dots Die.  Since I also knew I wanted to make this a shaker card I cut out additional backgrounds so I could stack them all together.  I needed to have a background for the panel to sit on so I grabbed my distress oxide inks to create the colorful back drop.  Since the galaxy panel was really busy I didn’t want to risk stamping a sentiment in the middle.  Instead I pulled out my hello die from Pink and Main and die cut it out of silver paper.  I also die cut additional hellos to stack the sentiment for weight.

Now it was time to assemble the card.  To make things easy I took the Big Dot die and used a pencil to tray the dot areas on the background panel. I pulled out some colorful sequins and placed them in a few of the dots areas for the shaker aspect of the card.  Once I had that complete, it was time to place the galaxy background on top. Using the pencil to trace the openings made it super easy to line up.  To complete the card I added the sentiment and adhere the entire panel to a white card base.  I literally squealed when this card was complete. 😍Brea Reese Galaxy and Polka Dot background

Now let’s see what I did with all those left over dots.  It was so easy to put a card together with the galaxy dots that were left over.  I placed the Big Dot die onto a white card panel and traced around each opening so I had a grid on my paper.  I then adhered dots onto the traced lines and the card came together quickly.

For the sentiment I used one of the sentiments from the Big Dot Sentiment stamp also from Waffle Flower.  I wanted to have color on this sentiment that matched a color in the galaxy dots so I used the archival ink in the color of plum from Ranger.

Brea Reese Polka Dot Card

I layered this piece onto a purple background and adhere the panel to a white card base.  This card is stunningly beautiful in real life.  The different colors I was able to achieve with the Brea Reese alcohol inks is what totally made this card so beautiful.  Remember if you have an alcohol ink background that you’re not sure you completely love it, pull out die cuts and make backgrounds with them.  You can use word dies, shaped dies or cover plates like this one from Waffle Flower.

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge – Mid Summer Blues

August 19, 2019

Hey everyone.  I’m back sharing a quick card I made for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  This challenge is to use mid summer blues and I’m so happy I played along.  I finally pulled back out my Nuvo mouse from my stash and the really cool facetted stencil from Simon Says stamp to create this card.

For today’s card I used three Nuvo mousses for my color combination.  I tinted the pearl white down with a little bit of alcohol ink in blue from Brea Reese.  I stenciled the mousse over the faceted stencil from Simon Says stamp with a palette knife.  While this panel was drying I die cut out the sending hugs sentiment from white and silver foil paper.  I stacked my dies one on top of the other for dimension.

To finish off the card I layered the stencil panel on light blue card stock and then onto a white card base.  I added a few matte sequin and my card was complete.  I have a tutorial up using this stencil in a video I shared on my Youtube channel.  Head on over and check it out.

Love the simple look of this card.  Shopping list included below. It can either be sent to a female or male friend due to it’s simple color palette.  Thanks for stopping by today.  I’ll see you back here soon!

Glitz Glitter Gel – Customized Colors

August 18, 2019

Hey peeps.  I’m back today sharing a card make with Glitz Glitter Gel.  I’ve customized my colors for this card and it was so easy to do.  Glitz glitter gel is one of my favorite products and it really allows you to get creative.  Here in my tutorial you will see how I customized my color palette using the gel and Brea Reese alcohol inks.  Let’s take a quick look at the card I made.

First let me say that the clear gel can be tinted to sooo many colors with other mediums.  The bonus is you don’t lose the sparkle of the gel at all.  That’s a win-win for sure.   Thermoweb and Gina K. have outdone themselves with this gel.  It comes in some of Gina’s ink and paper colors as well so it’s great to use with all her products.

Let me give you some advice…GET ALL THE COLORS. 😂I know, full set syndrome speaking however they are just too gorgeous to not have on hand.  Again, you can mix the gel in with all your Brea Reese inks for custom colors at a snap.

Brea Reese Watercolor Review

August 15, 2019

Hey everyone.  Today on the blog I’m doing a Brea Reese watercolor review.  I have the watercolor tubes from Brea Reese and I wanted to pan them for a project.  Any time I get a new watercolor product I like to color swatch them and pan some to color with.  There are two different packages of Brea Reese watercolor tubes, Classic and Jewel.  I’m going to be sharing and swatching both today.

Here is a quick tutorial showing you how I pan my watercolors and how I swatch them.  It’s important to know the colors that you are working with and get familiar with them. Some paints may be more transparent than others and they also may have a higher or lower water content. So let’s get into the review. Products used for this tutorial are listed below for your shopping convenience.

Thanks for stopping by for this review. Remember what I mentioned in the tutorial.  Work with your paints to get the feel for them.  See how they respond to different papers and brushes.  Be curious about the products you purchase.  It helps with your creativity and overall happiness of using a product. Here as a link to tutorials I have here on my blog. Let’s get inspired to create.  Make sure to come back later today as I’ll have a sneak peek for you from Pink and Main.

(DISCLAIMER: THESE PAINTS HAVE A HIGHER WATER CONTENT SO THEY MAY CRACK WHEN YOU PAN A LARGE AMOUNT.  IF YOU ARE PANNING A PALETTE, I WOULD HIGHLY SUGGEST INCLUDING A DROP OR TWO OF GLYCERIN INTO THE PAINT, MIXING IT WELL AND THEN LETTING IT AIR DRY IN YOUR PALETTE.  IF YOU ARE ONLY USING A SMALL AMOUNT FOR A PROJECT I WOULDN’T WORRY ABOUT THE PAINT DRYING AND CRACKING.)
