Welcome to the Hero Arts My Monthly Hero for February 2022. You should have arrived here fro Channin’s blog. Surrealism design is a 20th-century avant-garde movement in art and literature which sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind, for example by the irrational juxtaposition of images. The My Monthly Hero February 2022 captures that design entirely.
For my card I went with a beautiful and simple design to pull your eye into the center of the card. Before I get ahead of myself, let me show you what you get in this month’s kit. Our February My Monthly Hero release was inspired by the art of the Surrealist masters and the magical imagery of dreams. Let your imagination soar with the playful drawings as you arrange your own creative scenes. There are nine different messages to include on your card or project, and the kit is rounded out with black watercolor paper, a water brush, and a custom Daniel Smith watercolor paint palette.
Kit Includes:
• 6” x 8” Clear Stamp Set
• 15 Coordinating Frame Cuts
• 2 Sheets of Black Watercolor Paper (5.5″ x 8.5″)
• Watercolor Dot Dream Palette (18 Dots)
• Water Flow Brush
Kit Value: $75
Kit Cost: $34.99
Pre-order your kit today – we estimate kit shipping will begin Friday, February 11th and continue throughout the following week. Also don’t forget the kit subscription you can do each month.
Okay back to my card. Compared to yesterday’s sneak peek card, you can totally see how you can take this kit from dark and moody to light and airy. Pairing the kit with the new Star Branches stencil was a fun addition. And I kept the background soft by using light pressure while stenciling with Hero Arts Soft Brown ink.
In the kit you will receive a waterbrush. I have a tendency to gravitate to watercolor brushes that I can dip in water since I feel like I have more control. However, having the waterbrush that contains the water, makes it easy cardmaking.
The watercolors I used for this card were Permanent Red, Mayan Yellow, Green Gold, Manganese Blue Hue, Ultra Marine Red, Rose Madder Permanent and Iridescent Gold.
A tutorial is available showing how to make this card. You can check it out here on the blog or over on my Youtube channel.
For the bonus card, I used the new Hero Arts Looking Glass Hot Air Balloons dies. These layering dies make card making so much fun. They become the focal point on your card with simple die cutting. I blended a piece of Hero Arts Dove White cardstock with Hero Arts Pool Party Reactive Ink. Next I die cut the Looking Glass Hot Air Balloons out of dove white cardstock. The backdrop for the hot air balloons was ink blended using Lemon Drop and Taffy reactive inks.
I used a nesting square pierced die to add a from for the hot air balloons. To finish off the card, I stamped a sentiment from the Hero Arts You Sparkle stamp set in Hero Arts Inten-sified Black ink. The colorful panel was adhered to a piece of Hero Arts Pitch Black cardstock and placed on a top folding Hero Arts card base.
And lastly for added interest, I added some dots using a size 10 white gelly roll pen. A simple yet fun card.
Let’s talk giveaways. We will give away a $50 gift card, drawn from the comments left across the hop. Enter by Sunday, February 13th at 11:59pm Pacific, and the winner will be announced on the Hero Arts blog the following week. Next on the blog is Daniel. Have a great day everyone and I’ll see you back here soon.

You can’t go wrong with a rainbow colored card. Really feeling like flying with the hot air balloon window card.

Hi, Dana – Love both cards… esp that first with that beautiful rainbow under the umbrella. I agree w/ you about a regular watercolor brush vs waterbrush. I pressed too hard once to get water out and ended up with a mess on my project. I have three waterbrushes and still gravitate toward regular paintbrushes.
Anyway, thanks for sharing! Love your work!
