Hero Arts/Dana Joy/ Pocono Pam United As One Stamp Set

July 20, 2020

I have no words that can express my excitement today.  Pocono Pam and I have partnered with Hero Arts and our first unity collection stamp set has been created. The United As One stamp set was born out of a need for our voices to be heard.  Aaron Leventahl (owner of Hero Arts) and Jennifer McGuire have been instrumental in making this stamp set come to life.  Often Pam and I have had conversations about how we felt black woman and men don’t really have a voice in the industry that we love. Today that has changed.

We have a dynamic blog hop going on today to celebrate the new release.  Please see the list below after my post so you can hop around and see what the creative team has in store for you today.

Hero Arts United As One

First, let me say thank you to the Hero Arts design team for their tremendous work in helping this stamp set come to life in our vision.  What’s the United As One stamp set about?  It recognizes the need for diversity and inclusion in the crafting community.  It symbolizes the struggles we are currently dealing with all over the world.  It’s time to embrace the change and move forward in unity not division. My card today features the main image of two hands to show that this industry (and others) can unite.  The hearts symbol the love I share with all my friends regardless of skin tone.

Hero Arts United As One

The sentiment is a pledge that we all can make a difference in what we need to see and hear in this community.  I’ve been a part of this community for over 20 years and I’m disheartened by tone of some crafters.  We don’t have to agree with everyone however we need to be respectful to everyone.  You can have your voice heard. Make your statements and kindly do it with understanding and a solid purpose of needing to unite and not divide. Let’s take a look at the stamp set.

Here is a closeup of the packaging and information on the partnership.

Dana Joy, Pocono Pam and Hero Arts are excited to partner in a conscious effort to be intentionally diverse and inclusive. Crafters and cardmakers of color need to feel support, appreciation, and respect when expressing their values, experiences and skin tone in their work. We are celebrating this spirit through unity, and this collaboration is a pathway for everyone to see themselves in their art. We hope the United As One stamp set will encourage makers to become interested and committed to listening and learning from and about each other, and recognize we are all one, united creative community. 100% of net profits from this 6″ x 8″ stamp set will go to Racial Justice charities.

My hope is you will see this stamp set as the beginning of a movement not a moment of solidarity and respect.  We can all do better so let’s be the change we want to see in this world.  The stamp set is now available for purchase on Hero Arts. #unitedasone

Holiday Card Series 2019 Day 9 – Guest Designer Pocono Pam

November 25, 2019

Hola everyone! It’s Pocono Pam here and I am excitedly taking over Dana’s blog and Youtube channel today as guest designer for the Got Joy Creations Holiday Series 2019. Make sure you are following this series for amazing holiday inspiration, giveaways and discount codes!  Don’t forget to leave a comment below to qualify for all the great giveaways! Throughout the series, Dana will be sharing tutorials, cards and a few surprises that you will NOT want to miss!

The Got Joy Holiday Series is a true reflection of Dana’s love of creating cards to share with family and friends! I am soooo very excited and honored to be part of this series. Before I share my card, let me tell you a bit about my crafty self! I discovered my true love for glitter, paper & glue in 2008 when I moved from The Bronx, New York to the Poconos in Pennsylvania and took my first scrapbooking class at Michaels. Creating cards, mini albums and playing with Copic Markers all grabbed my attention once I joined our crafty community on YouTube and Instagram. I have been inspired by many awesome crafters and artists, some of whom have become great friends!

I met Dana a few years ago and we quickly realized that outside of paper crafting we shared the same passion for our families, laughter, Bruno Mars, kindness, coffee, squirrels and spreading joy!

Today’s holiday card is inspired by Dana! We initially met on Periscope when she was giggling and sharing the release of The Ton’s Holiday Bows Stamps set. I fell in love with the set and eventually gained a friend! Therefore, I wanted to use the stamp set that launched our friendship to create my card.

Pocono Pam

I have a video on how I created the card. I also explain in full the story behind why the bows mean so much to me!

I was thinking of a glittery, glamorous holiday party when I created my card.  I knew that along with Holiday Bows and the Wedding Haute Dress, also by The Ton, would make a stunning card.  As you can see, my holiday bow set is well loved.

I stamped several bows in 3 sizes into Neenah Solar white 80 lb paper using my Misti.  I used Ranger Archival Ink: Aque as the base layer and Brutus Monroe Gradient Chalk Ink: Sea Glass For the top layer.
I added highlights and shadows to each bow the the following Copic Markers: BG10, BG32, BG13, BG15, N2 and C2.  I was going to apply Wink of Stella to the bows but changed my mind.  I used my Circuit Cuttlebug to cut out the bows.

Next, I stamped out the image of the woman on Neenah Solar White 80lb paper using both Ink on 3 Fade Out No Line Coloring Detail Ink and Brutus Monroe Raven Detail Ink. I wanted to use my creative license and add an Afro to the image but needed to see how it would look with each ink medium. I decided to go with a combo of Fade Out ink on the top part of image and the Raven ink on the bottom. This way, I can add an Afro without a visible dark line underneath.

I love the Ink On 3 Fade Out Ink as it takes on the color of the medium you are using. I added the Afro and colored the image using the following Copic Markers:

Afro: C0 C01 C03 C04 CO6

Skin: E000 E00 E01

Dress: R24 R27 R29

The afro is consists of dots and small squiggly lines.

I fussy cut the image with my Tim Holtz Non Stick Serrated Snip Scissors. Placing her on top on one of the stamped images I did not use, I traced around the Afro. I then cut out the entire image with about a 1/8″ border. This will be used as a background piece. I applied a generous amount of Spectrum Noir Sparkle Glitter to the dress and Black Wink of Stella to the Afro and let it dry for a few minutes. I popped my Tonic Studios Script Merry Christmas die in my Cuttlebug with a scrap of shimmery paper and Bazzill Wax Lips paper- love that name for the color red- and cut out my sentiment. I added Spectrum Noir Sparkle Glitter and adhered it to the shadow.

Now dry, I used my Tonic Studios Crafty Tacky Glue to adhere the image to the background piece I traced earlier and set aside.

I knew I wanted the bows to surround the image.  It took me about five minutes to decide on the arrangement I wanted. Once I did…..I took a few pics to recall bow placement and glued everything down to a Bazzill Wax Lips Red A7 (5X7) card base.
