Simon Says Stamp July 2021 Release

July 22, 2021

Good morning everyone. Today is the Simon Says Stamp July 2021 release. I had the pleasure of working with this gorgeous background stamp called Mountainscape. Oh my goodness, this stamp set has my name all over it! Let’s take a look to see how this card came together.

As soon as I saw this stamp, I knew pulling out my watercolor markers was my go to medium for this card. You may have heard me mention that watercoloring is a peaceful and relaxing way for me to color. I have a load of watercolor mediums (watercolor markers, tube watercolors, gouache and pan paints). Karin markers sit right next to me on my desk so I decided to use them.

To begin, I first stamped the image in Versafine Onyx Black ink on Canson XL watercolor paper. Sprinkled on clear embossing powder and heat set the image. Next I laid down a color wash of green and gray over the trees and mountains. Once I heat set that layer, I came back in with different tones of green and gray to build up the colors.

To complete the sky area, this was a little tricky. First I scribbled blue, yellow, pink and purple makers onto my glass media mat. I wet my paper throughly and picked up colors to blend onto the watercolor paper. I made sure not to let colors that would turn to brown touch. Heat setting the first layer I was able to really build up the color variations in the sky.

For the clouds I used a little bit of white gouache to make them white since the paper had more of a cream color. I also used a little bit of white on the top of the mountain tops. This panel started off larger than I needed, so I trimmed it down make a 5×7 card. I finished off the card with a sentiment from the You Got This stamp set also from Simon Says Stamp.

I really LOVE how this card turned out. All products used for this card are linked below. I can’t wait to see what you create with this stamp set and others from the new Simon Says Stamp July 2021 release.  Have a great day everyone and I’ll see you back here soon.

Hero Arts Hibiscus Flowers Bold Print Background Stamp

February 21, 2021

Hey everyone. I’m back with another card using a bold print background stamp from Hero Arts. The Hero Arts Hibiscus Flowers Bold Print background stamp is the perfectly lively background for your vacay themed cards.

I pulled out my Karin watercolor makers for my coloring medium. This allowed me to add bold color however also being able to control the intensity of it by adding less or more water.

For the sentiment I used the Lea’s Ornate Lowercase alphabet dies from Pink Fresh Studios. I die cut it several times in black cardstock and stacked them. I added glossy accents to give it some shine.

Once I had the panel complete I adhered it to Hero Arts Meadow cardstock and a white card base.  Thanks for stopping by today.  See you back here soon.

Simon Says Stamp Crafty Hugs Release – Peony Bouquet

May 28, 2020

It’s the Simon Says Stamp Crafty Hugs Release Day – Peony Bouquet.  I’m thrilled to be sharing products from this release and even more excited to share what I made.  Today’s card is featuring the new Peony Bouquet stamp. Oh the pretty cards I made for your inspiration today. I have three cards to share each done with a different coloring medium.  I’ll discuss each medium as I go through my cards. Are you excited?  Let’s discuss my first card. The Simon Says Stamp Crafty Hugs release is amazing and you’re going to love it!

For my first card I immediately knew I wanted to watercolor the image with my Karin Watercolor markers.  To begin I pulled out my watercolor paper and trimmed it down to 5 1/2 to 7 1/2.  I prefer to keep my paper larger than I need so I can trim it down later.  I stamped the image in antique linen distress ink so I could do no-line watercoloring. Next I simply added just a little bit of marker around the image and pulled the color in using a small paintbrush.  To add interest to the colors, I made sure to use more than one shade of red, green and yellow. Once I was finished coloring I trimmed down my piece to fit a 5×7 card, added a hugs sentiment and a few clear sequins.

My second card is probably my favorite as it’s so striking.  For this card I stamped the image in white pigment ink onto artagain black card stock.  I made sure to heat set this image before I went any further.  Next I pulled out my Caran d’Ache Luminance colored pencils and started coloring.  Using the white pigment ink under the color pencil really makes the color of the pencil pop!  It’s so beautiful to see come to life.  To finished off the card, I stamped and heat embossed a simple birthday sentiment, added a few white faux stitches around the border of the card with my white gelli roll pen and for added interest, I added some highlights with the white pen in select areas on the flowers. This card was mounted onto a 5×7 card base.

Now for my last card, I wanted this one to be bright and happy.  To achieve this look I pulled out my Copic Markers.  I stamped the image first in Gina K. Designs whisper ink.  To create a focal point I only colored one of the flowers with shades of yellow and green Copic Markers. It’s hard to see in the photo however the other flowers are very faint on the card panel.  To add some texture I pulled out my polychromo pencils to add in some shading. I stamped a simple hello sentiment, added a few sequins, backed the flower panel with grout card stock and placed it onto an 4.25 x 5.50 card base.

Friendship Blog Hop

February 12, 2020

Hey everyone.  Welcome to the Friendship Blog hop.  I know I’ve been missing for a little bit.  I caught a really bad cold while I was at Creativation and have felt horrible since my return.  I’m finally getting back into my craft room and searching for my creative side. So being a part of the Friendship Blog hop was the perfect way to get my inspiration back.

You can start at the beginning of the hop from Courtney’s blog.  Courtney is the organizer of this event and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.  There are amazing creative souls on the Friendship Blog hop and there are SIXTEEN Youtube tutorials as well as blog post and slide photos.  Trust me you want to see them all.

Since I’m just getting back into my room, I thought watercoloring would fill my creative block.  I enjoy watercoloring as I can push my creative side and it’s pretty therapeutic for me.  Including a rainbow themed card is the perfect way to happiness. 😉 I have a tutorial over on my Youtube channel for you to check out.  Here’s a few photos of the completed card.
